Program Notes

Reconosance is a tripartite work that incorporates non-western ideas of rhythm and voice.  The first section attempts to create a sound of new complexity by having players perform relatively simple rhythms in different tempi.  The second focuses on the voice and the interaction of players.  The final section concludes with a cohesive trance.
Boomwhackers, instruments typically used by children in a bell choir fashion, are taken out of context and brought into the world of art music.  Extended techniques are exploited to explore a wide variety of timbres, both percussive and resonant.
