Tracks is my first large scale work composed at the University of Minnesota.  It is based off of a piano sketch from Three Sketches of the North Woods, composed about my time spent in northern Wisconsin along the coast of Lake Superior during the summer of 2006.  There, I experienced the beauty of nature untainted from the bustling cityscape.  The work celebrates the natural world though the 18th century idea of topical motives (pastoral, the horse, storms, etc.) mixed with 21st century techniques to create a narrative.  This work also marks a return to following my true compositional voice (my ear) instead of succumbing to pressures of writing serialism.
